Awakening the Divine: My Transformative Spiritual Journey to Egypt

Narayana Montúfar at the Giza Plateau in Egypt

It’s hard to put into words my experience in Egypt, perhaps because it’s unlike anything I’ve experienced before in this lifetime. I hadn’t physically traveled there until the fall of 2024, though I had been there in spirit earlier. This story began a year prior. At the dawn of 2023, I started receiving guidance from above, prompting me to explore the Akashic Records. I had heard about them but hadn’t had a chance to delve deeper until then. As soon as I began, I became fascinated: “An energetic space that holds all the information from your past lives and your soul’s unique essence and journey.” Isn’t that fascinating? OMG… yes!

I had always wondered about the subject and had incorporated past life work into my astrology readings for years, but I was clearly ready for more. I did some digging and found a school that taught how to read the Akashic Records in Spanish, my native language. I was amazed at how quickly I found this school—their six-month training program was starting in just about a month. “What a coincidence,” I thought. I was already planning to be in Mexico at the start of the training, and while the course was mainly online, it all felt aligned. I truly felt guided, so I signed up. This marked the beginning of my journey back to Egypt.

The very first time I opened my records, I began experiencing visions of ancient pyramids. It was as if something had suddenly unlocked. Between February and June 2023, I experienced a deep amount of healing through past life work. However, the portal truly opened on June 8, 2023, during one of the most incredible readings of my life, provided by my dear friend and brother, Fara. During his Akashic Records reading, which he performed as part of his training, he had a clear vision of a mural in the temple of Abydos. This was when the goddess Isis came to me for the first time.

After that, several readings confirmed my past life connection to Egypt, with a sense of urgency for me to travel there. The guidance from above became stronger. Every time I opened Instagram, I saw someone I knew embracing a similar spiritual journey. Even when I wasn’t looking, I felt continuously guided. The urgency led me to search for spiritual journeys in Egypt, knowing I needed a guide or teacher. My first attempt fell through when a teacher I had studied with canceled her journey. I kept searching and found another guide, but the vibe felt off, and the trip seemed too expensive. Feeling disheartened, I remembered a colleague whose mom led trips to Egypt. I contacted her and paid for a full trip in 2023, along with my husband Alex. Everything was set, and I was excited! Unfortunately, when the conflict in Gaza escalated, our entire group pulled out. Alex and I were the only ones who stayed committed, pressing on to find another date. I was disappointed, as my spirit guides were urging me to get there as soon as possible.

When I launched my Soul Path Reading, I began working with the Neteru. While waiting for our shaman to gather a new group, I immersed myself in the study of Egyptian history and mythology, exploring both its scientific and mystical aspects. Astrocartography also played an important role. My Venus line in Sagittarius passed directly through Egypt and Cairo, where the Great Pyramid is located. Venus lines are often considered nurturing places—a cosmic alignment that deepened my connection with Egypt.

The trip finally materialized in the fall of 2024 with a new group of brave souls, even though the conflict in Gaza hadn’t improved. As a professional astrologer, I checked the skies, noting the intensity of the September eclipse in Libra. This celestial event was a gateway to the challenging astrology of the transition from 2024 to 2025. Despite this, I trusted the journey and felt excitement. My partner Alex and I decided to make a big trip out of it, visiting Turkey and Greece before heading to Egypt. Egypt would mark the 25th country we visited together. However, nothing prepared us for the profound experience of Egypt with our shamanic guide.

Arrival in Cairo and Synchronicities

When we arrived in Cairo, another synchronicity unfolded. Isis, the goddess who had guided me there, became central to the journey. During my research, I learned about asteroid Isis in astrology. Though not part of the standard astrological software, I found a tool on Astro-Seek to calculate its placement. I discovered that at the time of my arrival in Cairo, asteroid Isis was transiting Capricorn, conjunct my Midheaven at 25°. The Midheaven represents one’s public standing and life’s purpose. Simultaneously, Jupiter, the cosmic expander, was conjunct my natal Isis in Gemini. This alignment amplified the connection, making it clear that my journey to Egypt was divinely guided.

Meeting our shaman, Sandy, felt like meeting an old friend. She shared that her spiritual guides had instructed her to do something she’d never done before during her 20 Egypt initiation trips: help us cleanse, align, and awaken our chakras through Akashic Records work. This focus on “making the unconscious conscious,” a quote from Carl Jung that had long been on my website, was a powerful affirmation. It was clear that Sandy was the perfect guide for this journey.

Sacred Activations and Spiritual Purpose

Two months before the trip, my friend Nayeli and I, both students of the Akashic Records, opened the records and received a profound message. Humanity was on the brink of a new era, with individuals being called to reactivate ancient knowledge at sacred sites worldwide. We were told there were two types of activators: those who work from afar through meditative states and those called to physically visit these sacred lands. We belonged to the latter group.

As part of my preparation, I created an oracle deck that included my birth chart, sacred symbols, and temple-specific cards. At each temple, I performed a ceremony, leaving sacred water from Mount Shasta, representing humanity’s tears, and collecting sand. This symbolic exchange was deeply meaningful, activating the Virgo-Pisces axis in my birth chart. This axis, representing service and spirituality, was emphasized astrologically as the lunar nodes were transitioning into Virgo and Pisces. Though I didn’t perform the ceremony at the Valley of the Kings due to its overwhelming energy, I completed my mission at nearly every other temple.

My Experience Visiting the Sacred Sites in Egypt

All Egyptian temples are located by the Nile, which is a reflection of the Milky Way (as above, so below), and a reflection of the human chakra system. This process begins in the south (upper Egypt) moving up (lower Egypt). However, different teachings position the different temples along the Nile to different chakras.

Before we started our journey, we opened the records to see which one of the deities would be our guide. And while Isis had gotten me here, my guide for this trip was Sehkmet and her consort Ptah. Sehkmet opened my heart with a bright green light and Ptah showed me the beauty of the akasha & handed me an emerald crystal for my journey.

Sakkara Step Pyramid and the Serapeum

Our first stop was the Sakkara Step Pyramid and the Serapeum, located outside Cairo. Although the pyramid is dated to 2,500 BC, its true origin dates back to 10,500 BC (during the 3rd dynasty), and it was built by Imhotep, the priest of Ra. These ancient sites are incredibly significant, with the Step Pyramid being the foundation for all other pyramids. Its design was intended to facilitate time travel and ascension to the stars, as the ancient Egyptians believed we originated from different stars and places in the universe.

At this site, we left behind our fears and called in the things we wanted to bring into our lives. These locations date back to the Old Kingdom and are connected to the magic of frequency and sound—elements that the ancient Egyptians had mastered. The message I received here was: “You are doing the work, keep going. Darkness falls, and the light returns.”

Abu Simbel (Temple of Ramses II & Nefertiti)

I was mesmerized when I first saw the Abu Simbel temple—it is awe-inspiring, not only due to its size but also its majestic art. Upon entering, I was drawn to a wall statue of Horus. As I approached, the bird god himself activated me, sending powerful energy. It was an incredible experience, difficult to describe. I felt waves of light and heard, “Transmission accomplished” in my mind.

Here, we worked with the root chakra, and I was shown a past life where I had experienced the deep loss of my children. I sent myself love, releasing the fear of loss that had previously permeated my life.

Philae (Temple of Isis)

This is perhaps the most beautiful temple setting, as it sits right on the Nile. We arrived by boat and were fortunate enough to have it to ourselves for a two-hour sunrise ceremony, which was one of the highlights of our trip. While the Temple of Isis is relatively small, it holds a very special feminine energy that brings ease to the body.

Here, we worked with the Sacral chakra, and when we opened the Akashic Records, I met my child self, who feared pleasure because I associated it with the loss of my children—my creations. Isis, the goddess herself, helped me overcome this fear and assured me, “From now on, you will walk among the stars.”

Kom Ombo (Temple of Sobek & Horus)

At Kom Ombo, we worked on unifying our dark side. This temple is unique in that it is divided into two sections. The energy began to shift here, becoming more intense and masculine. It is a temple of duality, representing the light and shadow aspects of humanity and the universe. The temple layout is symmetrical, with twin entrances dedicated to Sobek (the crocodile god of fertility) and Horus the Elder (the falcon god of the sky and protection).

Edfu (Temple of Horus)

Edfu is the most well-preserved temple we visited, almost entirely intact. The ceiling still retains some of its original colors after thousands of years. Spoiler alert: many of these temples are older than what you’ll read in history books. The masculine energy I started picking up at Kom Ombo peaked here, as this is the site of the battle between Set and Horus.

We were told about the true story of humanity and learned that we are beings from the stars (Anunnaki) who came to build this temple and give birth to humanity. Due to the intense energy in this temple, we did not perform any ritual work here. However, after our visit, I did an Akashic Records reading and traveled to another galaxy. I saw myself as a male Paraph in that star system—a rare moment where I was shown as a man. I experienced profound sorrow because of a bad decision I made that resulted in the deaths of others. This healing was about forgiving myself for that past life and the choices I had made.

Esna (Temple of Neith & Khnum)

I feel a strong connection with Neith, the sky goddess depicted in many Egyptian temple ceilings. Her consort, Khnum, is the craftsman god who created humans. This small temple is stunning, especially after recent renovations, which allow for a closer look at the impressive art of the ancient Egyptians. The ceiling features a Moon calendar and zodiac signs still used today in Western astrology. This temple truly inspires you to look up to the stars.

Temple of Man in Luxor

In my humble opinion, nothing in Egypt feels as monumental or alive as the Temple of Man in Luxor. It contains an infinite number of statues and artwork. The first step I took in this temple overwhelmed me with emotion and ecstasy. I knew I had been here before—it felt like coming home. This temple is shaped like a man and follows a sacred system with rooms dedicated to healing each of the chakras. I could have spent hours here, exploring the rooms and admiring the beautiful art.

Right outside the temple is the Avenue of the Sphinx, home to 1,050 ram-headed sphinx statues. For me, this was a deeply healing experience—one I cannot compare to any other type of spiritual work. In fact, one of the women in our group saw me as a dancer in a past life at this temple!

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

Throughout Egypt, we saw a variety of architectural styles. The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut stood out with its unique, feminine form and colors, marveling in the desert dunes as it faces the Sun. This is the only temple built by a female pharaoh, which understandably caused tension with some of her family members who wanted to claim her throne. As a feminist, I was delighted to see her image within the temple, still standing in all its beauty. We were in the evening and the sunlight reflecting in the walls felt like pure glory!

Temple of Karnak (The Great Temple of Amun Ra)

By far the largest temple we visited, Karnak is immense, housing many other smaller temples, including those dedicated to Osiris, Isis, and Khonsu (the moon god). We had a special visit to the Temple of Sekhmet and Ptah, where we saw the statue of Sekhmet, hidden in a private area after it was disturbed. The energy in this temple is unlike any other—extremely ancient and powerful. Walking around the area was one of the most beautiful experiences we've ever had.

We also visited the Mut complex, where we found an abundance of statues of Mut, which resemble those of Sekhmet. Mut is one of the mother goddesses, while Sekhmet represents creation and destruction. What made this visit special was my connection with Sekhmet. The message I received from her was, “You have been here before, and you will come back again.”

Dendera (Temple of Hathor)

This temple is one of the most photographed in Egypt, second only to the pyramids and Sphinx. It is here that the first zodiac was found, though it was sold and is now in a French museum. Modern Egyptologists have tried to replicate it, but their attempts have failed. The temple is dedicated to Hathor, the cow goddess of love, birth, and sex magic. What makes this temple particularly special is the depiction of “the myth of creation”—the creation of humanity. As I gazed upon the images, I found myself wondering: Is this really a myth, or is it reality?

This temple is special to me, as it was here where a message from Hathor, the goddess herself, came in the form of guidance on how my own spiritual trip to Egypt would look like. While exploring and connecting with Dendera, I received images of me leading a group of incredible individuals, blending my specialty (Western Astrology), with all the learnings I have accumulated since I started studying Egyptian cosmology back in February of 2023.

Great Pyramid & The Sphinx

The Great Pyramid complex is even more iconic in person. It makes you marvel at how difficult it would be to recreate these structures even today. Most visitors to Egypt are drawn here, so it’s not easy to experience it alone. We managed to enter one of the main pyramid which required climbing many stairs. Along the way, we witnessed others undergoing powerful energetic healings, including one of my sisters. Inside the pyramid, the energy is palpable, and there’s a sense of remembering old codes and DNA.

The most incredible moment for me came during our private ceremony inside the paws of the Sphinx. We were fortunate to avoid the crowds, allowing us time alone with this iconic structure. As soon as I stepped under the Sphinx, I began to cry deeply. It wasn’t the same as my emotional release at the Temple of Luxor. Here, it felt as though a very ancient pain was being removed from me, and I was finally releasing intense karma.

We met with Anubis, the jackal god and the “Opener of the Way.” This was one of the most profoundly healing moments of my life. I knew I had been here before, and the Sphinx, known as the keeper of Akashic Records, helped activate something within me.

Integrating Ancient Egyptian Wisdom: The Effects of My Spiritual Journey Through Egypt

It’s been a little over two months since we returned from our trip to Egypt. The first noticeable change was the removal of deep fears I had about my creativity. As a self-taught artist, I had struggled with insecurities about my work. After returning, I found a renewed desire to experiment and an unwavering belief in the beauty of my art. I’ve seen this same transformation in my work as a content creator. I relaunched my newsletter and started implementing a new social media strategy.

Another significant shift has been the release of unhealthy lifestyle and relationship habits. Although I’ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years, I now eat less sugar and drink far less alcohol. Despite having a steady workout routine for 15 years, getting back into it after the trip was different. My muscle memory is stronger, and I’ve been losing weight without intending to. I also feel more connected to my body and have a heightened desire to care for myself.

I’ve had many “aha” moments about my life’s journey, even uncovering insights from when I was 18 years old. Some of these realizations are too personal to share, but they’ve opened my eyes to living with true strength and purpose. I’ve been unrooting pre-conditioning I wasn’t even aware of.

I am deeply grateful for the spiritual journey I experienced in Egypt. One of my biggest dreams is to return to Egypt and lead my own spiritual journey. The question is: Will the stars align for you to come with me?
